Yann Martels Life of Pi and Dominance

In Yann Martel’s Life of Pi, the main character Pi Patel gives the reader some insight as to how he trains a 400 pound Bengal Tiger, Richard Parker, with whom he is stranded on a lifeboat with. Throughout Pi’s entire ordeal the main reason that he is able to train Richard Parker is because he maintains dominance. There were many points introduced in Life of Pi about tiger training but the most important seems to be that must always maintain dominance. Pi exhibited his dominance through whistle training and providing for Richard Parker.
One of the first things that Pi does when he realizes that he and Richard Parker are going to be out on the sea for a while is begin thinking up a plan as to how he can coexist with him with no problems, as stated in this passage: “I started thinking seriously about how I was going to deal with Richard Parker.
