From Intolerance to Understanding Differences of opinion towards foreigners in Dancing Girls
In the story ‘Dancing Girls’ by Margaret Atwood, the differences of thoughts and opinions between the native people and foreigners are shown. The author’s purpose was to make a contrast in the opinion towards a foreign man between a lady who seems to be very attached to her native customs, and therefore who does not tolerate other’s customs, and a young lady who studies outside her native country; who knows how it is to be an outsider. ... This will demonstrate their differences. The two aspects to be analyzed are the type of opinion towards the Arab man, and the type of acceptance towards the Arab man. In the plot of the story, it can be shown that the opinions towards the actions of the Arab man are very different in both characters. ... Nolan saw the party as something unacceptable because they were dancing and making too much noise. Therefore, she exalted and decided to expel them from the house. There is another example that illustrates these differences of opinions.
