Women's Liberation
Women’s liberation has given women dramatically new opportunities, but the net effects are not as dramatic as one would think. While women are not still completely equal with men, their equality has vastly improved since 1940. There have been changes in jobs, stereotypes, home life, and perception. In the workplace, opportunities for women have improved. Today, they can become doctors, lawyers, judges, entrepreneurs, or any other profession they desire. Even though women now have the opportunity to attain any career they want, women’s jobs today are not so different than they were in 1940. A speech by Aileen O’Carroll (1992) gave statistics of the top jobs for women in 1990 and in 1940. A servant was the top job in 1940, while a secretary was the top job in 1990.
