By 2010, the German television industry is supposed to be digitalised – from programme production to distribution. Digitalisation is the technical improvement of analogue TV. This means that it will overcome the current scarcity of frequencies, lead to better and consistent quality and enable interactive applications such as games, voting, gambling and shopping. The German television industry is an extremely complex industry with a number of powerful and influential players. The interdependency of the different players, the complexity of the technological change and the effect on the television stations provided the basis for the main research question of this study: “How will digitalisation impact the German television industry?” The purpose of the study is to find out how digitalisation will affect the German television industry.
