Analyzing poetry
War Is Kind by
Stephen Crane
War Is Not Kind
The poem “War Is Kind” by Stephen Crane is a well written poem because Crane uses irony to portray that war is not kind. Crane uses death and battle events to emphasize how dramatic war really is. His irony shows how he feels towards war and or violence. “War Is Kind” shows the reality of war back when it was fought in a field on horses with drums and bayonets. ... From the first stanza it’s obvious that crane uses irony to make his point that war isn’t kind.
Do not weep, maiden, for war is kind.
Because your lover threw wild hands toward the sky
And the affrighted steed ran alone,
Do not weep.
