Anemia in cancer
Anemia in Cancer: Therapeutic Implication and Interventions The main focus of this journal is the relevance of anemia in cancer patients along with its treatment and prevention. Anemia seems to be significant in cancer patients due to cancer treatment and the tumor itself. Anemia is defined as a reduction in red blood cells (erythrocytes) and hemoglobin count of 12 g/dL or lower. Anemia in cancer patients is repetitively overlooked unless the patient reports symptoms of anemia and often occurs overtime. Cancer itself poses many risk factors that can induce anemia such as platinum-based treatment (chemotherapy and radiation), specific tumor types (lung tumors), and low baseline hemoglobin levels. Anemia affects the patients’ activities of daily living, quality of life, treatment of cancer, and recovery/survival rates.
