Feminine Reactions Resulting from Masculine Actions The two short stories, “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston and “Woman Hollering Creek” by Sandra Cisneros are two excellent examples of how the authoritarian behaviors of men bring out a more independent, self-reliant nature in women. The relationship between men and women in these two stories were at one time very real and alive. The constant disagreement and arguing, which is blatant at the end of each relationship, was not there. However, as time passes and the initial sparks have died away, the marriage becomes more and more of a hassle every day. The love and respect once shown for one another is only a distant idea as the couples in each story end up showing complete disregard for the happiness of their partner.
