How does Frank Darabont s direction in The Shawshank Redemption support Stephen King s sub title
I would class The Shawshank Redemption as one of the most remarkable films ever made. After Stephen King wrote the novella ‘Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption’ Frank Darabont, the director, took the story to a completely new level, and created a film that changed people’s lives, and most viewers’ perspective of life in a real prison. Darabont made this film appealing to a wide audience, including young viewers, whilst managing to maintain the central story line from the original version written by Stephen King. Although Darabont made it such a spectacular film, he had faced many challenges whilst directing ‘The Shawshank Redemption‘. ... The lack of romantic interest was an extremely big challenge for Darabont, as there are no female characters in this film. ... Probably the most challenging and likely stipulation in Darabont’s quest to ‘Direction of the year’ was the dreaded, stereotypical ’prison movie’ expectation that an audience would find boring and difficult to relate to. Fortunately, Darabont had the ability to overcome these obstacles, and leave viewers astonished. ... It starts with a slow 1940’s melody, which leads the audience to believe it is the background music, however the camera then shows a radio in the car of Andy Dufresne.
