Metamorphosis
Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, “is the story of [Gregor Samsa] a young man who, transformed overnight into a giant beetlelike insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, [and] a quintessentially alienated man” (back cover, The Metamorphosis). ... Gregor’s transformation brands him as “an object of disgrace to his family” (The Metamorphosis), and as a result he is confined to a tiny, cramped room in the house. ... Following his metamorphosis, Gregor’s sister, Grete, would leave Gregor food to eat.
