World Politics 0500 April 2, 2003 Weapons of Mass Destruction In the 1990s many developments were made pertaining to weapons of mass destruction including chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Although new international agreements have been formed, new technological advancements have made the production, use, or sale of these weapons a distinct possibility for countries that did not have the capabilities to do so in the past. In today’s society, the fear of the use of weapons of mass destruction against the United States is a reality. ... Therefore, it would be unjust to outlaw one type of weapon such as weapons of mass destruction, when there are other weapons out there that can cause just as much damage as the weapons of mass destruction. When the weapons are in the wrong hands, such as terrorist groups, the threat for the use of these weapons to inflict terror rises. Weapons of mass destruction in the hands of irrational actors pose a serious threat to the entire global community. According to the National Strategy to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction, “Weapons of mass destruction could enable adversaries to inflict massive harm on the United States, our military forces at home and abroad, and our friends and allies” . In a perfect world we would be able to eliminate all weapons of mass destruction.
