Early 20th Century African American Challenges

There is no denying that African Americans have been denied the basic human rights that the founding fathers of the United States fought the British to obtain for all the populace of the thirteen colonies—except for the Negro, who was only counted as a half-person. ... That is why if I were an African American leader of the early 20th Century, I would use education, political influence and the courts—the same methods employed by the black leaders discussed in A New Deal for Blacks, Sitkoff, Harvard, Oxford University Press, 1978. ... Albeit education, political influence and court challenges will not change prejudices overnight—it will provide the most effective long term change to the thought process of the people in the United States and it will lead to a more equitable treatment of all minorities.
