Communication and Black People

“Communication and Black People” Today in the Black community there are so many issues like, a lack of education, HIV/AIDS, poverty, internalized racism, and so many other things that are affecting our community and our everyday lives. Communication through the television media affects the communication between Black people. ... As the leading media resource for Black people, BET gives a limited representation of our lifestyle and culture. In their new reality show, “College Hill”, the image of Black college students is projected in a very stereotypical light. ... With these images of it’s alright to have a “baby-daddy”, or to be disrespectful to women and to not want to excel academically are clearly accepted by the BET standards, therefore they will be accepted by Black people who receive them. This leads to affecting some of our communication with each other. Some Black women might feel that having a “baby-daddy” is the standard. And many Black men find it more than acceptable to have multiple women partners and to only develop their athletic skills.
