Disciplining our Children
... Some parents believe that children should only be verbally disciplined. They believe it is wrong to hit children. Other parents believe it is all right to physically discipline children if they have done something that is deserving of it. There are so many ways to discipline children, it just comes down to which way will teach them not to something bad again. ... They said that teenagers or children under the age of 2 should not be hit, or their guardians should not use a belt or ruler when hitting them. ... In another case in Ontario, there were 6 children removed from their house because they were being spanked with a paddle. Their parents think the bible tells them to use something to hit their children. ... " The court will determine if the children will be protected against this inappropriate punishment (Gray). ... The studies show that hitting children doesnt make them learn what they are suppose to do. ... " In her studies, she observed that "[m]ost people who were physically punished as children did not, as adults, consider themselves abused. ... The CPS, or Canadian Pediatrics Society, says that discipline should teach children good behavior, not just punish them. ... Children should be punished by their parents, not the people who teach them in school. ... In this article, certain religions dont believe their children would be able to give themselves to God if they are not properly disciplined. ... [and] agree that children should be spanked if they misbehave" (Andero and Stewart). ... Parents do have to choose how they want to teach their children how to act. ... If parents choose to use physical force when disciplining children, they should know when and when not to use this force. ... Likewise, they should be careful when spanking and they shouldnt make their children pay for the bad day they had (Parents Need Their Own . ... Parents must be very careful with small children. ... For the older children, they should know the rules and therefore shouldnt need to be disciplined (Peterson).
