The members of Tool recognize this materialism turned obsession and blatantly protest it all in the title track off of their album entitled “Ænema” (pronounced aw-nuh-muh). ... Through effective methods of repetition, analogies, and blatant wording, this piece of music protests all things phony and sheltered in greed. ... “Some say the end is near. ... “Here in this hopeless…hole we call LA / The only way to fix it is to flush it all away. ... They have such a hatred for all the issues they confess later in the track that their solution is to basically start over. ... They use examples of shallow things that populations spend too much space pondering over. ... A message is passed on to the listeners saying that people place as much faith into careers and assets as they would the end of the world. ... All of them are shining examples of where stern desire and over-conscious self image may lead. ... all his clones. ... all those gun-toting / Hip gangster wannabes” (Keenan).
