Against the Legalization of Drugs

Against the Legalization of Drugs By: James Q. Wilson For countless years now in America there has been an ongoing debate on whether or not illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and marijuana should be legalized. In the article I have chosen “Against the Legalization of Drugs”, James Q. Wilson gives a strong argument for why certain drugs should remain illegal. I myself have felt that the best way to win the war on drugs is to legalize them all together and attack the problem of drug abuse from a treatment stand point. Wilson mentions this idea in his article but he argues that although the crime rate may decrease he feels that legalizing these drugs will consign millions of people, hundreds of thousands of infants, and hundreds of neighborhoods to a life of oblivion and disease (Wilson, 439).
