These circumstances are fictitious but not far from the question on the United States right or responsibility to interfere and often-times wage military actions in or against sovereign nations. ... Questions on its right to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign nation should be considered in the light of the United States abiding respect and regard for the freedom of both its people and peoples of the world.
Looking at the issue in the light of international law and code, the United States has no right interfering in the affairs of a sovereign nation. However, the same cannot be done when determining the United States responsibility in this issue. Laws and codes do not determine responsibility, principles do. The United States principles of human equality and freedom give it the responsibility to interfere in other countries when there are gross disregard of human rights and liberties. Hence, the United States has no right but a responsibility to interfere (even militarily) in the affairs of a sovereign nation when human rights and liberties are being abused beyond the point of putting on a watch-and-see attitude.
One major sore point that has continuously brought up the question of the USs responsibility to interfere in the affairs of other countries is its seeming replacement of the UN in international affairs. The United Nations has over time proved to be ineffective in effecting global peace and security and this shortfall in its capacity has given the US the responsibility that leads it into the affairs of many sovereign nations. ... Congress has refused to pay these arrears until the United Nations pledges to undertake reform.
