My entry into the United States Air Force was a very changing life experience. At the time that I left for basic training Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. I had never been away from home and family for more than a week. My basic training was to consist of six weeks of training, then additional training of at least six more weeks. This would mean that I was going to be away from home for at least 12 weeks. The thought of being away from home for that long was scary enough. Also thrown in was the fact that I would have a training instructor hollering at me daily.
