The Rise of Metallica From playing in bars and nightclubs to playing in the big times, Metallica has become a popular Heavy Metal group. Starting their rise in the early 80’s, Metallica has continued to rise in 2004, making ten different albums. Though Metallica continues to have, fame and fortune, it also has had to endure hardships to get there, such as: losing members, deaths, and rehabilitation. The band, Metallica, first evolved in the 1980's. Metallica, a name suggested by a friend Ron Quintana in San Francisco, California, who has the same title in mind for a fanzine, began coming together. Lars Ulrich and his family immigrated to Los Angeles, CA from Denmark in August 1980(Rolling Stones Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll 572). Ulrich goes to London and tours the UK with New Wave British Heavy Metal band Diamond Head. After returning to the US in October, Ulrich decides to form a band to record a track offered to him by Metal Blade label owner Brian Slagel for an upcoming concert called, Metal Massacre.
