Virgin Suicides

The two most important characters in “The Virgin Suicides” are Cecilia and Lux Lisbon. Although we know what the girls are doing, we don’t know exactly why they are acting and feeling the way they are feeling the way they are, because the story is being told in the third person limited. The narrators of this story are an anonymous group of neighborhood boys who now are men, and recollecting back on their memories of their past. Probably one of the most important parts of this story is characterization. The first most important character in this story would be Cecilia Lisbon. Cecilia is thirteen years old and the youngest Lisbon sister. Cecilia has porcelain, precious look to her. She has a bad habit of nail biting, and spends hours writing in her diary. Cecilia also invokes in the Virgin Mary, and is very withdrawn from others. Cecilia’s death and the way of which she killed herself caused the whole community, mainly the Lisbon family, vast grief and worry.
