Arthur Miller, Death of a Salesman The uniformity of their ideals (pp. 6 – 28 / 1st act) 2.1 Is there any evidence that the brothers' relationship is affected by Willy's favoring Biff? Biff and Happy seem to have a generally good relationship as adults. It is hard to notice that beneath this good relationship lies an immature rivalry. Both brothers try to hide it, but it becomes apparent when the brothers talk about their success with women. "I don't know what gets into me, maybe I just have an overdeveloped sense of competition or something..." (p.16, ll.20-21) This is how Happy describes his need to prove himself by getting attention of women who are already taken or generally 'hard to get'.
