Crazy Game of Jai Alai
... A few weeks after I arrived, I traveled to Fort Myers, Florida to a place called Dania Jai-Alai. In Fort Myers I learned about the ancient Spanish sport of Jai-Alai, so that I would be able to write a strong essay explaining the game. The Dania Jai-Alai building was much larger than I had ever imagined, and the amount of people that could watch a game of Jai-Alai was mind-blowing. The seating in the showroom entirely faces the right side of the Jai-Alai court, boasting enough seating for about five-thousand, five-hundred people. The sport of Jai-Alai was much more popular than I had ever thought. There were quite a few people betting on Jai-Alai on a Saturday, when I went to learn about this interesting sport. I was invisible, watching the professional players and the spectators, who experience Jai-Alai on a regular basis in their lives, a sport that I never knew existed. I sat in an aisle in the center of the showroom, down near the Jai-Alai court, so that I would be able to see the game up close. Before the game started, the announcer read the names of the eight players that would be playing in the next game, along with the names of the three referees.
