Ratification
The document we know today, as the Constitution did not come without many challenges. In 1787 the Constitutional Convent took place in Philadelphia where representatives from each state gathered to discuss the Constitution. The names of the representatives that presided in the convention are etched in our history and if not for their untiring efforts the Constitution would have never survived. James Madison as known as the “father of the Constitution”, Alexander Hamilton, Gouverneur Morris, Robert Morris, John Dickinson, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington were all present for this historical event. ... After the convention the true test of ratification lay at their wayside.
The struggle for ratification got underway and after the convention, somewhere between September 1787 and July 1788. The ratification of the Constitution required that 9 of the 13 states ratified the document. Quickly after the ratification process started the nation split between two groups. ... The Federalist was supporters of the Constitution and fought diligently to seek approval of the Constitution. ... The Anitfederalists denounced the Constitution, as a radically centralized document there would destroy the liberty fought so hard for during the Revolutionary War. The arguments these two groups would bring forth would ultimately decide the fate of the Constitution.
