The musical My Fair Lady is based on class differences and how a person can change their class by the way they dress, act and speak. Eliza, the main character goes from a poor flower seller to a “lady”, due to the work of the linguist Henry Higgins. ... When Henry decides that he wants to turn her into a “lady”, he tells her that her clothes have to go and that her nicest dress that she has worn to his house should be burned. For the rest of the movie we see Eliza’s transformation to a lady and it is first marked by the drastic change in her clothing. ... Her obnoxious conduct shows that she is not a refined “lady”, that she is just rough girl that finds it normal to be loud and unruly. ...
My Fair Lady is based on Henry Higginns feeling that if you can change your accent you can change your class.
