Algorithmic Cost Modelling • A model is developed using historical information which relates some software metric (usually size) to project cost. • An estimate is made of that metric and the model predicts the effort required. 2. Expert Judgement • One or more experts on the software development techniques to be used and on the application domain are consulted. They each estimate the project cost. • Cost estimate is arrived at by consensus judgements. 3. Estimate by analogy • Applicable when other projects in the same domain have been completed. • Estimates by analogy with these existing systems. 4. Parkinson's Law • "work expands to fill the time available" • In software terms a project will cost whatever there is available to spend on it.
