Old Silent Films
Prior to this class my knowledge of silent movies was limited to three categories; brilliant comedies of Charlie Chaplin, which my father took me to see any chance he got; classic masterpiece of Russian cinema – “Battleship Potemkin,” which was shown in Russia every year; and ones seen by sheer luck in Brooklyn College (because the original professor was absent that day) – “Cabinet of Dr. ... ” I must admit that I’ve enjoyed the silent films the greater extent that I could. ... I came to understand the history and the evolution of silent films into talking pictures. Every film I viewed, allowed me to see how the films progressed in time, and the resemblance to today’s cinema.
