Learning to Fly The story of Harrison Bergeron is a tragic tale of a promising youth cut down in his prime. In a time when "Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else", Harrison Bergeron Broke free of the restraints of a meaningless society (Vonnegut). Through his own vision and strength, he was able to overcome the trials and tribulations placed upon him for his own good, by a society that was obsessed with living an average life. Even though his life was tragically taken from him at an early age, he was able to experience the ecstasy of freedom, joy, and love that the rest of his society was doomed to never have.
