Dear Sir/Madam: This letter is offered in support of the L-1A Nonimmigrant Visa Petition we are filing on behalf of Pius Kraehemann, whom we wish to employ in the capacity of Technical Manager for a temporary period of three (3) years. Mr. Kraehemann qualifies for the requested classification because for almost eight (8) years he has been employed in a managerial capacity with either our parent company, sia Abrasives Holding AG , of Fraunfeld, Switzerland (formerly SIA-Holding AG, hereinafter “SIA”), or with its wholly owned subsidiary, sia Abrasives Industries AG (formerly SIA Swiss Industrial Abrasives Ltd., hereinafter “ sia Industries”). Our company, sia Abrasives, Inc.USA (hereinafter “siaUSA”) qualifies as the instant petitioner based on our corporate relationship to SIA, as follows: COMPANY BACKGROUND siaUSA (formerly known as Swiss Abrasives Marketing (SAM), Inc.) is a North Carolina company incorporated on April 18, 1995 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SIA, of Frauenfeld, Switzerland (See Exhibit #1). We are engaged in the sale, distribution, converting and technical support of coated abrasives and related products (See Exhibit #2). Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, we currently occupy a 67,200 sq. ft. office/warehousing facility (See Exhibit #3). Having initiated operations with two (2) employees, we now employ thirty-eight (38) in-house personnel, plus approximately 29 commissioned sales agents (See Exhibit #4). During the fiscal year now in progress, our staff is expected to expand by at least seven (7) individuals, with at least another twelve (12) individuals to be hired by the end of the year 2001. As of its inception, siaUSA's principal focus was to develop and expand marketing operations within the U.S., Canada, Central and South America (See Exhibit #5). The company continues to provide marketing and sales support for SIA's U.S. distributors, as well as one (1) Mexican and one (1) Canadian distributor. However, since January 1996 it has assumed a more active direct sales role. This move has significantly increased our exposure, and greatly contributed toward increasing profitability. sia USA's immediate marketing program is aimed at all board manufacturing companies, the automotive aftermarket (PBE), the aviation industry, the furniture and floor sanding industry, metal manufacturers, and the boat building and repair industry. . In the spring of 1996, and somewhat ahead of schedule, siaUSA initiated the second phase of its development: Warehousing/Distribution operations. In 1998 and 1999, the company purchased 98% of its inventory from SIA. Converting operations began on October 1, 1998.
