Learning and Experience through poems and text
ESSAY: In what ways have your views of learning and experience been influenced? It is quite common for an individual to learn from the experiences of others, from an account of the experience that is given. Judith Beveridge gives the reader an opportunity to learn from the experience described in her poem, “Fox in a Tree Stump”. ... Through this recount, the reader is able to recognize the lessons being learnt and the event’s effect, and can then themselves learn from it. The same idea is represented in the supplementary text, “Tibet”, however this text is different to the two aforementioned poems as it depicts the experience of an adult. This gives a slightly different perspective on learning and experience that the reader is able to learn even more from. All three aforesaid texts portray an experience that has had a great effect on the persona. From witnessing this, the views of the reader in regards to learning and experience are altered. One of the ways in which the experiences of the character are portrayed is through the use of poetic techniques. Beveridge’s poem, “Fox in a Tree Stump”, is a very dramatic experience, and this quality is enhanced through the use of very strong, sensory imagery. ... In both of the poems, the reader is drawn in by the use of techniques and is able to empathise with the character, and learn from their experiences. All three texts portray different variations of learning and experience, which has a powerful affect on the readers acting as a witness to the event described. The texts give an account of the effect that the experience has had on the character.
