English 10-1 Julius Caesar Essay People are confronted with choices throughout their daily lives. The choices, being positive or negative, are made with what the person believes to be right. In the play “Julius Caesar,” by William Shakespeare, Brutus makes choices which affect not only but the entire nation. The author suggests that the choices we make, either positive or negative, will affect the outcome of our future. The character Brutus is confronted with choices that will change his life, and the life of his country. In the beginning of the play, Cassius asks Brutus to join the conspirators. The conspirators are a group of people who are against the ruling of Julius Caesar. Brutus loves Julius Caesar, “I love him well,” and is very honourable. “For let the gods so speed me, as I love the name of honour, more than I fear death.” Cassius manipulates Brutus into joining the conspirators by notifying Brutus of Julius Caesar’s weaknesses and flaws. He explains how Caesar needed the help of others when he was in trouble. “But ere we could arrive the point proposed, Caesar cried, “Help me, Cassius, or I sink.”” He explains how Julius Caesar is not all powerful as he has lead people to believe. “He had a fever when he was in Spain, and when the fit was on him, I did mark how he did shake. ‘Tis true, this god did shake.” Cassius then further manipulates Brutus by explaining that he would make a better king then Caesar.
