In this regard many comparisons can be made between the Gods and Antony and Cleopatra in line with the Gods. Mars was regarded as father of the Roman people, evidence of Antony taking on this role is seen when Cleopatra describes him as ‘The demi-Atlas of this earth’ upon hearing he has left to resume his duties towards the empire. The term is correct because as Antony is part of the Triumvirate his role involves the protection, nurturing and caring of the citizens of Rome. ... Another of Antony’s God like qualities is the fact that just as Mars is the God of war who is needed to commence and end battles so Antony is a skilled fighter.
