the idea of 'life as ritual'; the 'cult of the body' which bombards our consciousness relentlessly in films, magazines, T.V., etc; also, the role of spirituality in modern society - although my point here was that people tend to express their 'spirituality' through their feelings or emotions, rather than through any deeply conceived or rigorously analyzed beliefs. One aspect of the poem that you mentioned in your original post, was the TONE. I think you described it as 'criticizing'. I should, perhaps, have taken this up in my discussion of the poem. Don't you think that the poet is, perhaps, speaking a little tongue-in-cheek (ironically) here in his description of the spectators?
