According to a number of sources (quoted in Collin Simpson’s Book, Lusitania), as the Lusitania’s size and structure made it particularly vulnerable to attack it had been extensively modified and armed. ... The British had received intelligence about the U20 submarine, responsible for sinking the Lusitania in the days leading up to the attack. The Lusitania had many opportunities to alter its course and avert the danger of the submarine however the intelligence either did not reach the ship, or its full impact was not realised. ...
