Iago in Othello

Iago only provides two specific reasons for his actions, which are to say the least, a bit unconvincing for the amount of ruthlessness. However, it is that characteristic of Iago (ruthless) that perhaps makes the lack of motives excusable. Iago’s first reason is his anger and discontent for Othello for choosing Cassio, an inexperienced Florentine, over himself for position of Lieutenant. ... 430-431), referring to Othello perhaps sleeping with Iago’s wife. These two alone are the only outspoken reasons given by Iago for his hatred and revenge upon Othello, however, there are other underlying tones that provide possible insight to his complex character.
