I have chosen to write a personal response to Richard Wrights “Big Black Good Man”. ... It has been a prevalent view that black men were not of the caliber of man that white men were. In reading this story I related very strongly to the character of Jim, a tall black man that dressed well and carried himself with dignity. ... I have seen the way people view black men who present the traits of Jim and the way there has been an overt attack toward the image of this strong black man.
