I have chosen to write a personal response to Richard Wrights “Big Black Good Man”. ... It has been a prevalent view that black men were not of the caliber of man that white men were. In reading this story I related very strongly to the character of Jim, a tall black man that dressed well and carried himself with dignity. ...
