Reading is not Work

... I can honestly say I do not remember my parents reading to me when I was growing up. My earliest memory of reading is probably when I was around five or six years old. I can remember reading one of those “See Spot Run” books. ... She was very strict on all of her students and enforced in us the importance of reading and writing. ... At this age, the most important thing to me was getting home to ride my motorcycle or to play with my friends, not reading a book. I did read some of the book, but not the whole thing. I do not think I have ever read a book from start to finish. Needless to say, I did not do so well on the book report and it was obvious to her I did not read the entire book. ... She would keep me after class and would try to explain to me why reading was so important.
