If I am hired to save a project, my first step would be to spend 4-5 week period to evaluate the project and come up with a project implementation approach.
During the project re-definition phase our charter will be as follows:
Review and update business plan determine if the financial numbers, assumptions, ROI, etc. ... After $100 million, business determines that to deploy the project would require spending additional $250 million, $70 million to finish the software system and another $170 million for hardware infrastructure. They shut the project down, wrote off $150 million and their stock went up couple of dollars.
Review Business requirements with project sponsor and re-prioritize the requirements into three categories - Must have, should have and Nice to have. ...
