Yellow Journalism

In the late eighteen hundreds, newspapers were the only source of news in North America. Even if what was reported was not true or not fully truthful, the American people had no way of knowing. There was no means of verification, and no laws that prohibited producing false statements. In order to produce more customers, the publishers of these newspaper companies often exploited their power by sponsoring colorful and reckless approaches to reporting. This technique became known as Yellow Journalism. Yellow journalism has become synonymous with three things: Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst, and the Spanish American War. When Joseph Pulitzer moved to New York in 1883, he became a successful man in America. Outside the country was a different story. Pulitzer was born on April 10, 1847 in Mako, Hungary.
