In the movie “Gideon’s Trumpet” it shows how the 6th Amendment and the 14th Amendment play a major role in what happens to Clarence Earl Gideon. The movie is based off of the Betts vs. Brady case in 1941 in which a court order was decided that only murderers and rapists were allowed a free lawyer. However, under the present law in 2005 only special circumstances get a lawyer such as: racism, very low intelligence, illerate, complex charges. Clarence Earl Gideon was accused of breaking into a pool hall at five o’clock in the morning. He was seen by a young man coming home from a party coming out of the pool hall with beer and wine. The next morning the sheriff came to talk to Clarence and asked him where he had been. He told the sheriff that he went into town last night and did not rob anyone. The sheriff then asked him to empty his pockets onto the table.
