Catherine Sweeney Rough Draft Paper 2 Vacationing With The Family My special place has always been my dad’s car. His old, gray Chrysler took my family and me on vacations all over the country. Naturally most people would assume that we went on traditional family vacations such as Disney World, however, we went on vacations that included history and nature. One vacation that I vividly remember is the time we drove ten hours down to visit my uncle in Diamond City, Arkansas. Well it was supposed to be a ten hour drive except an hour and a half into the trip, my mom realized that she had forgotten her purse. This naturally pissed my father off since we had to add another three hours to our already long journey. Because I got to sleep for a large portion of it, the ride actually did not seem that long to me. At the time I only listened to the music that my dad did, which was golden oldies. After a few hours though, the oldies stations died out and the only music left to listen to was country. At first I hated it and thought it was ridiculous that a person could sing about his wife leaving him, his dog dying, and ripping a hole in his overalls all in one song. As time progressed, and the songs repeated themselves over and over, my family and I actually began to learn the words and we had sing a longs. As we drove through Missouri, the long, straight, smooth road became bumpy the minute we hit the Ozarks. Beautiful as they may seem, for a person who easily gets car sick, they are a nightmare.
