The Patriot In the movie “The Patriot,” history unfolds as one man fights to keep control of his whole family. Mel Gibson plays the actor Benjamin Martin who is a widowed father of seven kids. He formally fought in the French and Indian War, but now just wants to tend his own fields and settle down. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War had just started. Martin’s older son Gabriel wants to fight in the war but Martin does not want him to go though what he had gone through in the French and Indian War. Against his father’s own will, Gabriel leaves home to join the colonial army. Several months after Gabriel left, he returned home injured from a battle which was near by Martin’s house.
