Modern Day MacBeths

The character of Macbeth can be seen in many formal kings, presidents, and other leaders. His greed and ambition caused his downfall just like many other leaders. This paper will discuss how Macbeth’s own ignorance led to his downfall and how it has occurred in the world since the famous play was written. Macbeth can be compared to men like Napoleon Bonaparte, whose greed ended his famous career at Waterloo. Adolf Hitler can also be compared to Macbeth with his desire of the Sudetenland and the perfect race. These men had their peaks of fame and, like Macbeth, had their tragic downfalls. William Shakespeare wrote many dramas in his time. Shakespeare moved to London around 1592 and began his career in drama.1 He enjoyed writing plays about men who have everything they could ever want one minute and end with nothing. Since he moved to London alone and without money, these plays could reflect his feelings about something that may have happened at home with his family. Plays like Othello, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and King Lear were all written by Shakespeare.2 One of his most recognized plays is Macbeth. The play is about a well-known man named Macbeth. Macbeth was the Thane of Glamis, a Scottish noble, and a general in King Duncan’s army. In the play, his desire for power over Scotland causes him to kill Duncan and take the throne. His plan did not end that easy because once people begin to become suspicious of you, you must eliminate them as well.
