The Game of Life Compared to the Game of Eight Ball The game of pool is very complex in nature. On the surface, it appears to be an extremely simple game of pocketing balls into holes at the end of a felt covered table. The average eye does not see nor appreciate the meticulous skill required to pull off every shot. Calculating the proper speed, english, and angle are all required to perfect a seemingly simple shot to the untrained eye. One of the most intriguing things to watch at a pool table is a person make a difficult shot look easy. Finding time to play enough pool to satisfy my desires has been difficult in high school. Between an extremely difficult schedule, baseball practice, and many different club meetings has left little time to shoot pool. Attending a private Catholic High School that puts great emphasis on academics has been a great experience however. Over the last four years I have compiled a 3.94 GPA while taking mostly honors/AP courses. My class rank has stayed right at the 10% ranking every year and I will finish at 19/199. My scholastic standing is not what defines me as a person though. The thing that I am most proud of from high school has been the service hours performed at Holy Names Grade School in Memphis. Holy Names was an abandoned church in the ghettos of Memphis that had been closed for over fifty years. A rather large donation from an unknown source was given to the Diocese of Memphis two years ago, and the only stipulation on the gift was that it be used to help the poor children of Memphis.
