When I was seven or eight years old my older sister and I would play “make-believe”. With us being so close in ages, only twenty five months separated us, we were always together. She would pretend to be a mermaid or a soldier and draw me in to the fun. I remember us traveling to the African jungle through the monkey bars or swimming in the ocean of our pool. But I never wanted to be an explorer or an astronaut like she did. She was always thirsting for more. The present was never enough. One rainy day we drew pictures of things and decided to make them a currency for the new country she had created. The only members of the population were her and I. Another time when she was seven and I was five she told me that a card she had gotten free in her brand new wallet was “magic” and could transport me to Disneyland if I closed my eyes and wished but I had to pay her five dollars for it to work.
