As I have grown, I have learned new things, matured (somewhat), and developed my own sense of self. Individuality is priceless. It’s like one of those commercials for Visa: Ernest’s Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, $15. A pen to take notes with in class, $4. A lip ring to twirl when you’re bored, $10. Individuality, PRICELESS. I could probably make a movie out of what individuality means to me. There are so many good things that individuality brings to the world. One good thing is new ideas, new literature. Where would we be without Shakespeare? Who would have developed drama that rhymed? That carried out a moral theme? How would we know about fate without Oedipus Rex? What would an Imagist be without Pound? How would the world turn without George Orwell? Of course, I, myself, do not care for many great authors. I couldn’t read The Song of Solomon, by Toni Morrison whom won a Nobel Prize for her work. I have learned that literature can flow out of the artist’s veins. I have learned that my own work, though wonderful, can be easily criticized by others.
