Reflection of Culture and Religion in The Algerine Captive
The novel The Algerine Captive by Royall Tyler reflects many aspects of both religion and culture. It not only informs the reader of the religion and culture of the Algiers, but also allows for the reader to relate aspects of the Algiers to that of his own. The book outlines the religion of the Algiers which can be deemed as Islam. Then the reader may infer some conclusions about how the religion and culture presented to him resembles other cultures in today’s present date. The religion and culture presented in The Algerine Captive can be paralleled to that of today’s African American society.
