Racism. It's almost impossible to turn on a news program, read a paper or magazine article, or engage in a political discussion without that word coming up at one time or another. Racism is also one of the most important factors in the workplace. Sociologists describe the class system in United States as divided in many classes: upper, upper middle, middle, lower middle, and lower class. In United States our power structure lies in white males. The lower class is often people who have little education, unemployed or work for minimum wage. People of different color and women make up a disproportionate part of this class. Although the majority of the poor are white, disproportional rates of poverty are also found among Asian Americans, Native Americans, Black Americans, and Hispanics.
