2: Ray Drower is a middleaged man, a parent, but doesn't seem to display the "normal" parental qualitives, i.e. protection and authority. Unlike Penny's mother, Ray doesn't seem to be worried that Andy might be "no good". Instead he is fascinated by the way Ray lives his life. I think this is quite odd, because I think that most parents would be scarred to see their daughter together with an uneducated, overconfident biker. But why does Ray has this fascination for Andy's lifestile? I think the reason could be that, Ray might have gotten married pretty early in his life with Eleanor. Eleanor is the daughter of a doctor, and comes from a "good middleclass" family. Ray was from a working class family, and when he met Eleanor, it was a culturechok. He had to change, settle down, just to please his wife. Therefore he had to skip the "rebel" phase of his live. In his boring adult life, the rebel phase seems attractive, and he decides to regress. 3: B: Andy was a big and strong youth, free from responsibility. He rode a huge motorbike - a beastly, filthy machine, as Penny said. He was a carpenter living at his parents house. He was not paid by the hour but by the job.
