Imagine this; you just got out of class and are walking down the street with a friend who happens to be African-American when a car full of students drives by shouting “Get off are campus, damn nigger!” What do you say to something like that? How would that make you feel? Most importantly, how do you think your friend feels? Hate speech, it is morally and ethically wrong. Today’s American college students are faced with this kind of verbal and physical abuse everyday. These students receive little or no protection from these racial and sexist comments. For first year college students this kind of stress could be very harmful socially and academically. I am aware of the First amendment and the Bill of Rights, which calls for equality, but how can things be equal when hate speech is not regulated. We need to draw the line where people’s speech is just unacceptable.
