The theme of reality vs. illusions is very prevalent throughout Shakespeare’s Hamlet. From the very beginning the people of Denmark assume that a venomous snake instead of a deceitful murder killed King Hamlet. ... The characters appear to be wholesome and sincere but in reality are infected with immorality. ...
When first looked upon the characters of Hamlet seem to be filled with good intent, honor, and ethics, but when they’re true colors come out they are seen as demons plagued by wickedness and deception. These disguises provide the basis into which Hamlet brings about the ruin of the Denmark kingdom, one of these being the king’s advisor, Polonius.
