Puberty Blues Genre: Comedy/Drama Based on the book “Puberty Blues”: by Kathy Lette & Gabrielle Carey. Puberty blue delves into the lives of two young wannabe adolescent girls, with “respectable” families. As they travel through their journey of identity they experiment all the usual challenges that teenagers go through and there is a particular emphasis on trying to fit in, pressure, expectations from parents, and transformation. There are of course, the incidences such as smoking in the school toilets, sneaking out at night to meet the guys, experimenting with drugs and the scare of pregnancies. It is easy for us to laugh at the misfortune of these characters however at the same time; these same issues are still very much prevalent in today’s society. The female leads in puberty blue search for romance but fail to see how utterly pathetic both the chase and the target end up being.
